You are not all created equally with a coin of $1. Though the majority of them circulate at face value, there are some that have become a valuable commodity and are worth thousands, possibly millions of dollars, as a collectible item. There are minting errors, low production numbers, historical background, and condition that are contributing significantly to value. These are eight of the most valuable $1 coins which have ever been struck.

1794 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar

The Flowing Hair Dollar of 1794 is often considered as the first official United States Mint silver dollar. The coin is considered by some specialists to be the first silver coin to be minted and in a good state, it was sold at more than 10 million dollars, which is the highest-valued coin of all times.

1804 Draped Bust Silver Dollar

The 1804 Draped Bust Dollar is referred to as legendary and is also known as the King of American Coins. Even those dated 1804 were in fact not struck until several decades later as diplomatic gifts. There are only 15 known specimens and when one of them occurs on the block, it is a fierce battle among the elite collectors to own a specimen.

1866 Seated Liberty Dollar (No Motto).

The 1866 Seated Liberty Dollar with no in god we trust is incredibly rare. Only a small number of examples made it into circulation as the United States was in a design transition phase of production. The best specimens have fetched as much as seven figures.

1870-S Seated Liberty Dollar

The 1870-S Seated Liberty Dollar is one of the rare regular issue U.S. silver dollars, minted in San Francisco. Less than a dozen are known to exist. Its obscurity and the absolute scarcity make it the subject of superior collections.

1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar

The 1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar was minted in Carson City, Nevada in relatively small quantities. A lot of them were widely circulated and of high grade the rare. Coins in good condition can be sold at tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

1921 Peace Dollar (High Relief)

In 1921, the Peace Dollar was issued to stop the Morgan series and feature optimism of the post-war after World War I. High relief design was hard to strike and easily altered too and in today’s world original high relief has become of great value.

2000 Sacagawea “Cheerios” Dollar

In 2000, a promotional campaign was done by putting special Sacagawee dollars in the Cheerios cereal boxes. Some of them had finer tail feathers on the reverse eagle. These scarcely found varieties have since been modern collectibles of high demand.

1979 Wide Rim Susan B. Anthony Dollar.

Most Susan B. Anthony 1979 dollars are also common but the common one is the Wide Rim. The date is brought closer to the edge than usual issues. They were not as valuable as early silver dollars, but with high grade coins they may still fetch high premiums in the collector market.
